My best friend Julie and I love to travel. Individually, we’ve been all over the globe—Scotland, Australia, South Africa, Iceland, and more. Together, we took an unforgettable trip to Arizona a few years back. And if it weren’t for the COVID-19 pandemic, we would have added Switzerland and Germany to our list in 2020.
So when Julie, video editor extraordinaire, decided to start her own YouTube channel focused on travel itineraries and tips, I knew I could help with the branding. But what really stuck with me was how closely Kondo's tidying method related to the work my teammates and I were doing on Syracuse.edu. I worked closely with Austin and Jazmin on the design of their wedding invitations, RSVP cards, and social media promotions. The couple had a defined color palette of greys, blues, and maroon and knew they wanted to include watercolor and hand lettering. Within those parameters, I was free to go wherever the design took me. I created the watercolor strokes and lettering, which set the tone for the invitation design.
